Under Student Teacher Program

I am sorry for not updating this blog. I am under the student teacher program.

Though I have a lot to talk about this topic, I decided not to write the articles about it. This is to keep confidentiality of the school noted at the Fundamental Law of Officers.

I will write my impression of the student teacher program briefly after it.

Visiting my high school Part.4

I visted my high school to take part in an orientation of the student teacher program. This is the last orientation for it.

First of all, another English student teachers will take part in this program. She is much older than I. She was in the high school the incident at Asamayama occured. Though she is old, her English ability is high.

In the orientation, we had to decide a person who will greet in front of the teachers. Unfortunately, I was desiginated as the role. The greeting can be brief, but I am so nervous.

I showed my teaching plans and resume for the class to the adviser. He told me to reduce the balnk to fill. Moreover, he pointed out that I teach too much to students. Teachers are supposed to think about the amount to teach observing the students' level.

Anyway, I will do my best in the program.

Preparation Class

I held a preparation class today. As I prepared very well, the class prceeded as I had thought.

Today's activity treated the introduction of the lesson. There were some pictures and listening questions in the section. As all students belong to the English teacher course, most students answered the question smoothly.

However, it took 50 minutes, which is the time limit of one period, to finish the section. In my plan, I decided that I will use the time to finish it. I thought that I would finish in less than 50 minutes even concerning about students who can not answer the question.

Although the students answered my questions very smoothly, time did not remain. That means I can not finish the section if students can not answer.

The reason is that I taught too many things in one sentence. Though I had to teach just expression, I taught gramatical issues in the section. It took such a long time.

Though I spoke fairly slowly this time, a student pointed out that I spoke too fast. This is my deficit to improve...

Quiet class

Though I have been complaining about the chat in two classes, the teacher of school counceling has decided to solve the problem.

The instructor studied why the chat in a classroom never stops from the reports. According to him, it seems that there is a tradition that a student takes a note even though other colleagues chat. The chatting students ask him or her to look at the note and they study. That means chatting students have a motivation to study. They do not simply find themselves causing a trouble to other students.

For such students, the class is to meet with their friends and make a good relationship among them. That is a precious time to keep the relationship. The instructor does not disagree with their opinion. He worked at a hospital, and he knows that health is the most significant matter. We can never do anything we want unless we are healthy. The chatting is the symbol of the positive power.

It is, however, true that there are some students annoyed at the chat. So, the instructor decided that the student who makes a trouble is supposed to leave the class after writing the attendance sheet. (The attendance is not counted.) He regretted to forget the place of students who want to study seriously.

After the his declaration, few students chatted. Moreover, the voice is reduced dramatically. I was delighted to take the class due to their cooperation.

Anyway, this is a good experience for me to consider about the chat in the class.

I have finished writing the class plans for my student teacher program. It is difficult for me to make the plan without observing the academic level of students.

Preparation for Group Interview part.2

I joined the preparation activity held by my university for the students aiming to be a teacher. This time, some former students in my university came to be ready for the interview test. I had to make an entry sheet for this preparation as well as the real interview. The sheet is organized for the students to decide their PR and the reason to be a teacher.

As I decided what I would say in the interview this time, I succeeded in declaring my opinion better than the former activity. In the first activity, the interviewer praised me due to the clearance of my voice. I am getting used to the system of interview.

However, some references and actions were pointed out that it is a taboo. First of all, to show my cooperation to the interview, I gazed at the speaker's eyes. This action is regarded as an extreme reaction by the interviewers. I should nod looking at the interviewer's eyes.

Secondly, I used some taboo words. In order to promote the students' personality, I said "I am going to let the students think about social issues such as Prime Minister Abe's action." As a teacher is official officer of local community, they can not declare their political opinion in front of the students. This will touch the Fundamental Law of Education. (政治上の中立)It is acceptable to use the example of a historical person and I will take care of this taboo.

In the second interview, I touched a taboo again. The interviewer told us to play a role in the situation to admonish a chatting student despite the caution to the whole student. As I suffer from the chat, I said "If you want to keep talking, get out of here!"

It is not acceptable for the teachers to say in this way. If they do so, parents will accuse the teacher. Moreover, if the admonished students meet an incident and the school is accused, the school can never win the court. The action to tell students leave the class deprives the students of the rights to study. (I think they abandon the rights by themselves, though...)

In my high school period, a lot of teachers did the action. That is because high school is not compulsory education and they have a right to choose whether or not they will take the class. I think the thought is correct. I was, however, shocked at the fact that it is extraordinary and unacceptable...

As I am getting used to Listening section in TOEIC, I have begun studying the Reading part.

Since I am originally good at reading English passages, I learned to get 38/48, 90% soon. I want to reach 100%, keeping studying this section.

Education Navigation Part.3

I took part in the activity of Education Navigation for English teachers. Today's activity was that a female student held a class dealing with conditional type 2.

As she wants to be a junior high school teacher, her explanation was not parepared well from my view point. This section is difficult to choose an example sentence and to signify the difference with indicative mood.

As usual, I put a bottle on the desk when I listen to the presentation. At that time, a teacher in charge of the education in my universtiy came to observe our activity. According to him, it depends on the mood of the school whether or not a teacher should admonish such a student. In so-called low level high school, teachers do not admonish attitude to take part in class.

It means that teacher should observe around, and make the direction of the teacher's. Teachers are required to be soft in all time.

The Threat of Education with Latitude

As I mentioned before, I am writing a teaching plan in my house. I study the given text book and I doubt that they can pass the entrance examination.

The passage in the text book is much shorter than those of ours. It is on the left page, and on the other side a comprehension check and a grammar explanation are written. It will be a good support to explain about significant expressions for students. However, the significant part is to read passage. Nevertheless, the part is reduced dramatically.

The education with latitudes is fashionable in Japan though it has begun being denied. The students are under the very period. Latitude is important if it is correct amount.

However, I think the text book too much latitude to study. Students in the second grader are supposed to read passage with about 2 pages a section. Nevertheless, they can not pass the entrance examination of University. Can the text book let them enter a university? I doubt it.

Anyway, I have to observe the appearance of the students and make a good plan for them.

A situation in train

Today's ethics education theory treated some role play games in a situation in train. It is said to be a good attitude to give a seat to elder people. However, some elders think themselves not as old as everyone says, and giving a seat may lead their anger. So, how should we give a seat to them? The activities make students think of such a difficult issue.

First of all, we think about the situation that the old stood in front of you when you take a seat with your friend. I decided to ask him whether or not he wants to take a seat. In case he or she wants to sit down, I am willing to stand up. If not, I keep sitting.

We discussed the situation each other. A female student suggested we leave from the seat in silence. Though it is possible that other people interfere to take a seat, hat is the best way not to take care of the feeling of the old.

Secondly, we think about the situation we suddenly get sick sitting on the seat and the standing old seems in sick, too. Though I keep imagining the situation many times, my conclusion is that I can not do anything. I do not mean that I "don't" but "cannot".

If we are in the ultimately dangerous situation, we can not afford to consider about others. In other word, we can not take care of "ethics". We end up putting priority to ourselves in such a situation.

Smile Video

I like to watch Youtube and I usually access there to watch old anime movies. Recently, Smile Video (ニコニコ動画) has been getting more power among Japanese people. That is because you can put your comment on the movie. That means you can enjoy a movie with others.

Today, I registered my E-mail and watched some anime movies. If you do not like to watch the comment on the movie, you can download the file with other web service. I downloaded the collection of Ganbarugar's transformation and finishing moves banks, which I wanted to watch.

A inconvinient point is that the time to utilize the web site of some people's is limited. People within 77777 can watch the movies in any time. But my ID number is in 80000s. So, I can wathch the movie only until 19:00. I feel it inconvinient.

Education Navi Part.2

I took part in the activity of Education Navi today. Today's contents were practice class and general knowledge test.

Though I wanted to hold a class as soon as possible, I could not apply for it becasue I did not have a material in the student teacher program at the application. So, I observed the colleagues' class.

I thought that everyone had a good class. However, the most teachers did not give a caution to students who were not concious of joining a class. For instance, a student put a bottle on his desk despite class. Normally, a teacher must admonish him due to the rule in school. No teacher does not admonish students using a cell-phone. That is the same thing. In the test, examiners observe teacher's attention to such a students.

Secondly, I took a practice examination of general education created by a former student in my university. According to him, students who will challenge an English teacher in high school is supposed to obtain over 80%. Yesterday's result was 70% and I have to study more. I will keep studying to get a high mark.

Preparation of Class Plan

I have begun planning my classes in order to have them checked by many people such as the teacher of the advanced methodology of English education and the teachers in the high shcool. Though it seems fairy fast, everything is not too fast.

I am planning the oral communication class first. Students are required to acquire some expressions orally. This treats club actibities in high school. As my high school has a lot of club activities, I will teach the lexicons. The famiriality helps students acquire the vocabulary.

Secondly, I am making a plan to organize a Reading class. I am suffering from organizing that because the passages are much shorter than those in my high school period. That is good for students. The current students, however, can not answer the questions despite the length. Moreover, they neither review the section they will learn nor think of the questions.

I am worried about the bad situation. Anyway, I can not be optimistic.

Visiting My High School Part. 3

I went to my high school again to obtain the textbooks and directions from the teachers in the high school. At this time, the teacher who was not there at the former visit stayed in the high school.

I am supposed to have two second grader classes and two first grader classes. I have one home room as well in the second grader.

I do not know the details about the first grader. On the other hand, the teacher, who is in charge of the second grader, told me about the character of the classes. One is very easy to teach because lots of students are serious and aim to enter the university. The other class, however, is a little bit difficult to teach. Due to the difficulty, the teacher decided to have me have model class on Thursday in the second week at the class. Anyway, what teacher must do is to teach something to students who do not know knowledge. The authentic teacher skill is asked when I have a difficult class to teach.

The lesson i Reading I will teach is about exchange program in America. As I have the experience of studying in Australia, this is very easy to talk about. Anyway, I will study the materials so that I can hold a good class for both classes.

Prepration for TOEIC part.2

I challenged a practice test of TOEIC again. In the former trial, I could not do my best because I had not slept enough in the last night. Today, my condition was best and I tried another listening test.

The result was about 75/100. It is much better than the former trial. And, I am realizing my deficit.

In Part.3 and Part.4, I can answer the questions if I foresee the questions before announce. The foreseeing enables me to recognize what I should listen to and what the point of conversation is. I somtimes fail to interpret the conversation correctly, but it is the key point of the question.

In TOEIC, note taking is not allowed. But, even if we take a note, it does not touch the line, it is said. If so, I am going to take a little note and makes it help the answer.

Next time, I am going to try writing part again and find the solution to improve my score.

Noisy Class Part.3

Though I am getting tired of writing my complainment about noisy classes, I am writing the articl again.

Although the tutor in school couceling told us to write a report about chatting in class, the students do not stop behaving bad.

In my sence, I would reconsider about my behaviour if I put my feet into thier feet, and stoped chatting. Anyway, I want to take part in a silent class to concentrate...

Preparation for TOEIC

As the date of TOEIC is getting close, I took a sham examination of listening test by myself. I always practice my English competence with writing a blog and watching Discovery channel with trying not to see the subtitle. I thought that this practice will keep my English skills.

However, my estimate was too optimistic. For, the result was 51/100. This is very low for me and I doubted whether I really had got 805 points two years ago. Was it just my luck? When I was in Australia, the score dramatically declined and it proved that the assumption would be exact.

The system of test, which was revised last year is not so different from the former one. I caught what speakers say and I obtained high score at picture questions.

The problem occurred in conversation. I am poor at catching conversation without note taking. As you know, note-taking plays a significant role to take the English listening test. However, note-taking is prohibited in TOEIC. (My friend who obtains high score always takes notes, though...) I am sure to catch the conversation. But, I forgot the content and could not answer the questions.

Anyway, I must overcome this weak point. Otherwise, I can not regain the top score in my major. I do not want to waste my experience in Australia!!
